Atrell Sheffield

Atrell Sheffield, 92, of Beaumont, passed away on January 6, 2015. She was born on August 20, 1922, to Bartie Thomas Woods and Minnie Ardelia Carrico, in St. Augustine, Texas. Atrell loved being a beautician and worked until she was 84. In 1951 Atrell was baptized and joined North End Baptist Church. She was a Bible reading soul winner, leading her two daughters-in-law to The Lord, among others. Atrell was a quick-witted domino playing lady. She also enjoyed working the daily crossword puzzle along with her son, Barry.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Rodney Sheffield and wife, Prissy, of Sour Lake, Dana Sheffield of Lumberton and Barry Sheffield of Beaumont; Mamaw’s eight grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren; sisters, Charlcie Carter of Buna and Doris Smith of Hemphill; and brothers, Bartie Woods Jr. and wife, Doe, of Tyler, Elray Woods and wife, Raelynn, of Lufkin, Elton Woods of Lufkin and Mike Woods of Lufkin. Atrell was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey A. Sheffield; granddaughter, Caran Coward; parents, Bartie and Minnie Woods; and sisters, Eunice Butler, Imogene Whitten and Billie Nixon.

Visitation with family and friends will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Lumberton Family Funeral Home. Her life honoring service will be Friday, January 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at North End Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
