Oscar Benjamin Blessing

Oscar Benjamin Blessing, 96, of Beaumont, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015. He was born in Middlesboro, Kentucky, September 20, 1918.

He was a US Army World War II veteran, serving with the 38th Infantry Division in the Pacific Campaign. Among his military awards, he was recognized for valor with the Bronze Star. He retired from Exxon and lived in Beaumont most of his adult life. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, an occasional casino trip and spending time with his friends at MacKenzies.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Dora Blessing; mother of his children, June Jordan Taylor; wife, Ruth Blessing.

He is survived by his children, Dr. J. Dennis Blessing and wife Brenda of Lumberton, Sereta Lee Summers of Sour Lake, Connie E. Blessing and husband Mick Hill of Lumberton and Janice L. Blessing of Beaumont; grandchildren, Mark Summers and wife Sabrina, Mike Summers and wife Phyllis, Ben Mott and wife Celeste, Logan Sellers and wife Susan, Cody Sellers and wife Kristin, Carol Merrifield and husband Jeremy Bartley and 17 great grandchildren.

His family will receive friends Thusday July 30, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lumberton Family Funeral Home. The funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2015 at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, officiated by Judy Kelfstrom, C.L.M. and The Reverend Audrey Reese.

Honorary pallbearers are Mick Hill, Rodney Morgan, Chuck MacKenzie and Lindell Law.
