William "Billy" Paul Purkey

Mr. William “Billy” Purkey passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the age of 75. William was born on April 15, 1943 to Kenneth and Margie Purkey in Baltimore, Maryland.

William “Billy” Purkey was a loving man who enjoyed life with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved his church and visiting with friends. Some of his favorite things to do were walking the mall, meeting new people and telling his testimony. People always recognized him by his big cowboy hat. Billy was sure to always have peppermints on hand and a good joke to tell, and if you had a million bucks to spare you were always his best friend. And, let’s not forget about the Blue Bell!

Left to honor his memory are his sons, William Purkey of Bossier City, LA, Dale Purkey and his wife, Chastadity of Buna, Texas, and Shawn Purkey and his wife Cynthia of Vidor, TX; his daughter, Dawn Purkey and her partner Tiffany Newell of Coolidge, AZ. Brother David Purkey; sisters, Mary Winemiller, Faye Colbert and Sue Prater; and grandchildren Jody, Jordan, Jason, Jenna, Jessalyn, Travis, Cole, Trinady, Taylen and Tylee.

Preceding him in death are his wife Loretta Purkey; son Jonathan Purkey; father Kenneth Purkey; mother Margie Purkey; brothers, Robert “Sonny” Purkey and Kenneth “Kenny” Purkey; and sisters, Lois Byrd and Phyllis Ferguson.

The family will receive friends and family from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Vidor Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Vidor, Texas. A life honoring funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Vidor Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor, Texas.
