Walter Linscomb Jr. Obituary

Walter Alvin Linscomb Jr.

1940 - 2019

Walter Alvin Linscomb Jr., age 78, left this life on July 11, 2019. He was born in Call, TX on October 22, 1940 to Walter Alvin Linscomb Sr. and Laura Murtie Fonville Linscomb.

Faithful and humble, everyone who knew Walter, knew he did not seek attention; most commonly, he would do things in his own way, in his own time. He enjoyed the quiet country life and while the world around him grew steadily more complex, Walter remained calm and set in his ways. To his wife and children, he was the provider and the role model; to his grandchildren, he was sweeter than ice cream. He never met a stranger; Walter had the innate ability to connect with folks and you would never hear him speak poorly of anyone. Walter met his sweetheart, Mollie, in school and made a lasting impression upon her. His easygoing demeanor and unwavering love proved him to be her soulmate. On June 18, 1964 Walter and Mollie were married and they spent the next 55 wonderful years together making lifelong memories. A faithful member of The Pentecostals of Pine Forest, Walter also helped build the First Pentecostal Church of Starks, LA in 1973, where he lost a hammer somewhere in the cement slab. He didn’t know how to whisper and was a face to face type of person, often hanging up the phone on people and leaving them talking to themselves. A good time for Walter was jumping in the truck and taking a drive out to the country, spending time just visiting with his friends, or merely checking on the cows. His ways were simple, but his impact on the lives of those around him was great. Truth is found in simplicity, and truth will live on through the legacy Walter leaves with the ones he loved so dearly.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Mollie Peet Linscomb; sons, Johnnie Alvin Linscomb of Vidor, TX and Chris Linscomb and wife, Kessie, of Chapman’s Borough, TN; daughter, Anessa Barnette and husband, Brian, of Vidor, TX; brother, Wayne Linscomb of Starks, LA; sisters-in-law, Glenda Linscomb of Vidor, TX and Carole Peet of Port Neches, TX; grandchildren, Christian Barnette, Landen Barnette, Lauraianna Barnette and Abriane Barnette; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, extended family and loved ones.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents; brother, William “Ricky” Linscomb; brother-in-law, Delbert Peet; sister-in-law, Alice Linscomb; and nephew, Weldon Richard Linscomb.

Visitation with family and friends will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Pentecostals of Pine Forest, 5005 N Main St, Vidor, TX. Walter’s life honoring service will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2019, also at the church, with Bro. Aaron Adams officiating and burial at Bland Cemetery in Orange, TX.
