Viola Mae Sparks, age 100, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024. She was born on February 23, 1924, in Palacios, TX to Teresa Koch Joines and Guy W. Joines.
A woman of grace, strength, and a touch of sass, she was the essence of beauty, within and without. She was an example of conduct, modesty, and love, never losing, with time, the sweet, girlish innocence of her heart. Viola dedicated her life to providing for her children as a single mother, working tirelessly as an Optical Laboratory Technician. She never hesitated to rise each morning, demonstrating unwavering determination and resilience, all for her family. In her youth, Viola was a square-dancing queen, gracing the dance floor with elegance and style. She dressed modestly, embodying the spirit of a true lady. Viola invested in the generations that followed her: spending time with her loved ones, adding her pizzazz to everything she touched, and passing on her driving skills. Her special gift was fixing things, mending trinkets and crafting for family members. To them, her hands were as crafty as her heart was generous, always adding a touch of love to everything. She always believed her greatest achievement was becoming a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. In her farewells, she would always include "See you mañana". Though her loved ones may be parted from her for a short time, there will be a tomorrow that they will be reunited with her once again.
Left to honor her memory is her daughter, Vicki Hawkins and husband, Holbert, of Fannett; brother, Carson Joines; grandchildren, Windi Cowgill and husband, Graydon, Lester Hawkins and wife, Tracy, Steven Hawkins and wife, Ofelia, and Delana Bryant; great-grandchildren, Cassidi Arndt and husband, Daniel, Elizabeth Farrell and husband, Elijah, Kimbir Cowgill, Brandon Jacobson, and Katie Wilkins and husband, Chandler; great-great-grandchild, Baylor Arndt; as well as a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Teresa Koch Joines and Guy W. Joines; son, Steven Sparks; brothers, Ervin Joines and Raymond Joines and wife, Margie; sister, Birdie Joines; and sister in law, Dixie Joines.
Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at Lumberton Family Funeral Home. Viola's life honoring funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Matthew Tuttle. She will be laid to rest following the funeral at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
