Vernadene McDuffie Lee, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. She was born on February 2, 1943, in Camden, TX, to Wallace Curtis and Marie Abernathy McDuffie.
The embodiment of loving determination and unwavering service to others, Verna left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew her. As the rock of her family and a steadfast pillar of her church community, Verna’s nature was to care deeply. She had a unique gift for hospitality, always eager to feed guests and ensuring that no one left her home empty-handed. Her servant's heart kept her constantly busy, opening her door to anyone in need—whether it was a warm meal or a safe place to stay. From her early years, she shared her musical talents with her beloved husband, David, playing and singing for their children. An accomplished pianist, Verna dedicated her skills to her church, edifying those around her. Affectionately known as "Maw Maw," she adored her grandchildren, showering them with love, snickerdoodles, and brownies. She found joy in simple pleasures, like playing Scrabble with loved ones and watching "The Price is Right." Her long career as a waitress at Denny's showcased her commitment to serving and feeding others. With a penchant for coffee, she delighted in trying different flavors and varieties. Her life was a testament to her boundless love, dedication, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing her.
Left to honor her memory are her children, Steven Lee and wife, Kimberly, Lisa Lee Schoelles, and Stacy Golson and husband, Jaye; brother, Elwood McDuffie and wife, Cheryl; sisters, Melba Ainsworth and Judy Horn; grandchildren, Anthony “Tony” David Ikner and girlfriend, Dani, Jessica LeAnne Collier and husband, Mark, David Michal Lee, Brendan Tyler Lee, Matthew Aaron Lee and wife, Taylor, Ian Raine Lee, and Kaylee Bloomer and husband, Aaron; great-grandchildren, Reid Johnson, Dawson Lee, Mila Lee, and Kensli Golson; best-friend, Sheena Springs; friend, Matt Craft; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, David Lester Lee; and brother, James Wallace McDuffie.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Trinity Baptist Church. Vernadene’s life honoring funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m., at Trinity Baptist Church, with Bro. Frank Young and Bro. Joe Dougharty officiating. Interment will follow at Williamson Cemetery.
