Thomas Earl Bell

Thomas Earl Bell, age 78, of Spurger, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022. He was born in Laredo, TX, on January 21, 1944 to Tom and Earline Walters Bell.

A man of strong faith, Thomas held in his heart a genuine love for God, his family, and his friends. He was intentionally naive, always seeing the best in people. Thomas loved to share the gospel, constantly relying on Psalm 23 for strength and guidance. He liked to be aware of his surroundings, but his weapon of choice was a Bible tucked away in his back pocket. Thomas had a contagious smile and endearing sparkle in his eye for anyone he came across. His family was his main priority, but his love and friendship did not stop there. Thomas’s church family became like his own family, followed closely by his chicken buddies. Many awards were won by Thomas at YMBL chicken shows, and many memories were made with his close friends that traveled with him. Driving was something that Thomas truly enjoyed, especially if it was to see his girls; and if he wasn’t driving, you could find Thomas sitting on his porch or perhaps watching his tv with the volume so loud you could here it from space. Thomas was a true giver, not just in words but a lifestyle. He and his beloved Rita were servants, truly giving and living for others. Thomas is now reunited with his Rita in the kingdom of Heaven. He will be greatly missed here, but like he always used to say, “If we don’t leave now, there’s no point in going.”

 Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Glenda Methvin and husband, Steven of Simpsonville, SC and Sabrina Savoy and husband, Brian, of Waxhaw, NC; brothers, Dan Bell and wife, Debby, of Lumberton, TX, Russ Bell and wife, Lois of Katy, TX; sister, Cherry Bingham and husband, Bill of Katy, TX; grandchildren, Sarah Methvin Poss and husband, Jordan of Fountain Inn, SC, Gordon Methvin and wife, Sarah of Greer, SC, Travis Methvin and wife, Alexa, of Summerville, SC, Miranda Savoy & Nathan Savoy, both of Waxhaw, NC; great-grandchildren, Sophie Poss, Joseph Poss & George Poss of Fountain Inn, NC, Trevor Methvin of Summerville, SC, Thomas Methvin of Greer, SC, and one on the way, Trent Steven Methvin, due in February of 2022; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Thomas in death are his parents; first wife and the love of his life, Rita Collier Bell; second wife, Teresa Roe Bell; brother, Barry Bell; sister-in-law, Linda Bell; and great-grandson, Samuel Methvin.

Serving as pallbearers will be Gordon Methvin, Travis Methvin, Nathan Savoy, DJ Hall, Tommy Graham, and Daniel Bell.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lumberton Family Funeral Home. Thomas’s life honoring funeral service will be held at Community Baptist Church Spurger on Saturday, December 17, 2022 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Bro. Steven Hayes and Bro. Brandon Golden officiating. Thomas will be laid to rest following the funeral service at Beech Creek Baptist Cemetery.
