Thomas Adams Obituary

Thomas Oscar Adams, age 87, of Vidor, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. He was born on August 7, 1938, in Kirbyville, TX, to James D. Adams and Lettie Whittaker.

He lived a life marked by steadfast devotion, quiet strength, and a gentle presence that made everyone around him feel at ease. Known for his melodious Southern accent and his gift for conversation, Tom could talk with anyone about anything, books he’d read, places he’d been, or the simple joys of everyday life. Tom married Evelyn, the mother of his children, on June 6, 1957, and the Lord blessed them with two sons. Tom spent his career as a lineman and electrician at Gulf States Utility, where he retired fairly young. Yet his retirement only opened the door to new passions; he spent years antiquing and working flea markets, collecting records by the thousands and spending countless hours playing dominoes and poker with fellow vendors. Tom was a songwriter, active through the 1970s, penning songs such as “I’m a Nervous Wreck” and “Guitar Zan”.  Fishing was Tom’s great love. A true fisherman at heart, he would cast a line anywhere he could find water, ponds, creeks, or Steinhagen Lake. The peace of the outdoors suited him, and he found joy in the quiet patience of the sport. In the later decades of his life, Tom devoted himself fully to his faith. He spent hours in prayer and in the pages of his Bible, finding purpose and renewal. His relationship with the Lord became the anchor of his life. As his faith deepened, he turned his creativity toward Christian music, writing songs that reflected his walk with the Lord.  A lifelong baseball aficionado, Tom was the biggest Houston Astros fan you could meet, following them faithfully all the way back to their Colt .45s days. A proud “Papa”, his grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy, and he poured into them the same steadiness, humor, and love that defined his life. Tom Adams leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, yet he will live on in the lives he touched.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Dr. Thomas William Adams and wife, Lisa Latil Adams, and James Bruce Adams; grandchildren, Dr. Jeremy John Adams and wife, Molly Huiling, Jennifer Adams, Zachary Adams and wife, Dr. Rachel Adams, and Samuel Adams and wife, Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Azariah, Kaleb, Barrett, and Paisley "P.J."; neighbor and dear friend, Theresa Stiles; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Tom in death are his parents; and brothers, Walter Adams and James Adams.
