Steven Eric Talley Sr.

Steven Eric Talley Sr., age 64, of Lumberton, TX, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. He was born on August 27, 1960, in Chicago, IL to Noland Lewis Talley Sr. and Laura Wallace Talley. 

His legacy was one of hard work, unyielding integrity, and a heart that knew no bounds. He was a pillar of strength, mentally and physically: the kind of man who always found a way to brighten even the darkest day with a perfectly timed joke or genuine laughter. His life was governed by his simple maxim, “Just make one person smile a day.”

Throughout his life, Steven embraced every challenge with remarkable fortitude, never letting pain or hardship dim his spirit. Whether he was working shoulder to shoulder with his sons in the Industrial Marine service or tackling the everyday obstacles of life, he did so with a steadfast resolve and a generous heart. His words often carried unexpected humor and insight, a reflection of a man that always sought to lift others up.

Family was the heart of Steven’s existence. A proud “T-paw,” he poured every ounce of his being into nurturing his children and grandchildren, ensuring that each family member felt the warmth of his support and the strength of his love. In early March of 1979, he met Kathy, the love of his life. After two weeks of courting, in a moment as sincere as it was unforgettable, he asked her, “What are you doing for the rest of your life?” Their marriage on March 31st of that very month marked the beginning of a lifelong journey together, one filled with unplanned adventures and heartfelt travels without an itinerary, where every new destination was greeted with joy and wonder.

Steven leaves behind a legacy of laughter, resilience, and love, a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His spirit lives on in the countless smiles he crafted and in the enduring bonds he forged. Though he is no longer with us, his steadfast example of living authentically, working tirelessly, and loving unconditionally serves as a guiding light for everyone lucky enough to have shared in his remarkable life.

Left to honor his memory is his beloved wife, Kathy Talley; sons, Steven Eric Talley Jr. and wife, Jamie Lee, and Dustin Wade Talley wife, Angela; daughter, Alisha Talley; brother, Noland Talley Jr. and wife, Yelitza; grandchildren, Stephanie Talley, Dylan Talley, Kaydance Talley, Allie Hanks, Isaac Talley, Brooklyn Talley, Preston Estis, and Maycie Talley-Porter; his canine son, Yeti Boom-Boom Talley; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Steven in death are his parents.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers donations may be given.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., at Lumberton Family Funeral Home. Steven’s life honoring funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Lumberton Family Funeral Home. Cremation has been entrusted to Lumberton Family Funeral Home.
