Stanley Leroy Schafer, age 78, of Woodville, TX, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025. He was born in Vidor, TX, on August 4, 1947, to Oscar Leroy Shafer and Johnnie Cargill Schafer.
A little over 78 years ago, a little Stanley L. Schafer arrived in the small town, (at the time) of Vidor, Tx. Stanley entered in, ready and raring to go! There are so many words to describe this man, I’m not sure if I will get them all, but I will start with Light-Hearted -one who is cheerful, happy, and carefree, with a joyful and optimistic disposition. Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine…” You can ask Uncle Randy if you need to know anything further. I say this with a smile and chuckle! affectionate, compassionate, devoted, kind, thoughtful, and warm. He was a very hardworking man! He always provided for his family but most importantly, he made sure that all of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and just a little over a week ago, great great granddaughter KNEW DEUTERONOMY 6:4 and ACTS 2:38! It was his heartbeat! Stanley was the owner of Affordable Tree Service. This was his avenue, many times to tell others about God’s Word. We remember times he would go to bid on a job, and it would turn into a Bible study. I remember in particular, as a small child, the customer asking, “are you bonded and insured? “and Pawpaw would lift his hands, look up to the sky and say “ oh yes!” When he started to get very sick and tired in his body, we were looking for some comfort and the Lord brought us to a passage of scripture in Isaiah 66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. This morning, the day after his passing, we are thankful to our Lord, Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith!
Left to honor his memory are his daughters, Evelyn and Dianna Schafer; brother, Johnny Randall Schafer and wife, Edith; grandchildren, Carolyn Smith and husband, Donnie, Loretta Johnson and husband, Charles, Ashley Schafer, Cynthia Purkey and husband, Shawn, Amber Pearson, Joshua Schafer, Timothy Schafer, and Krystal Schafer; great-grandchildren, Jody, Jordan, Jason, Jenna, Jessalyn, Cheyenne, D.J., Dallas, Matthew, Jayden, Raygin, Waylon, Devon, Blake, Lia, Jacob, Aryanna, Zoey, Logan, and Timothy Jr.; great-great-granddaughter, Roslyn Purkey; daughter in law, Melissa Schafer; sons in law, Jody Shepherd and Darren Gillind; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.
Preceding Stanley in passing are his parents; beloved wife, Naomi Schafer; son, Stanley Schafer Jr.; and brothers, Melvin Schafer and Raymond Schafer.
