Sherman Woodard Obituary

Roy Sherman Woodard, age 61, of Lumberton, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026. He was born on February 6, 1964, in Lufkin, TX.

Easygoing, softhearted, and sweet, he carried himself with a quiet warmth that drew people in. Raised in church, Sherman’s Christian faith shaped his character from an early age. He shared an especially tender bond with his mother. As her only son, he held a unique place in her heart, and he returned her love with devotion. Their connection was one of the great constants of his life. Long before the internet put answers at everyone’s fingertips, people turned to Sherman. He had a knack for knowing things. He was the go-to source of information, the original search engine before Google existed. On March 24, 1983, he married the love of his life, Jo, whom he first met at their church during high school. They bowled together, traveled with family, and created a lifetime of memories. Their marriage endured until Jo’s passing, and Sherman carried her memory with him until his own passing. He was gifted with musical talent, playing bass guitar, the clarinet, and several other instruments. He also loved to cook and barbecue, along with hunting and fishing. Professionally, Sherman built a long and respected career in the car business. He worked in several capacities over the years, always excelling. His work ethic was steady, and his reputation was one of dependability and integrity. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, his loyalty, and the love he poured into the people who meant the most to him. Those who knew him will carry his memory forward.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Winston Lee Woodard and Saundra Louise Woodard; daughter, Christina Drake and husband, Decota; son, Michael Ray Woodard; sisters, Shannon Sims and husband, Robert and Connie Bayless and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Lilly Thornton, Cayla Marie Woodard, Levi Ray Drake, Mason Lynn Drake, and Madilynn A'lise Drake; best friends, Kevin Swearingen, John Mark Long, and Mike Kelley; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Sherman in death is his beloved wife, Louise "Jo" Woodard.
