Sharon Phelps Obituary

Sharon Kay Phelps, age 63, of Lumberton, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024. She was born in Knoxville, TN, on July 2, 1961, to Arthur and Jackie Hayes Hensley.

A woman whose spark illuminated the lives of many, Sharon was a beacon of kindness and selflessness, always striving to lift others up. Her bubbly and kind personality left few unaffected, bringing joy to all who knew her. Sharon found peace and happiness in the great outdoors, where she loved to mow, garden, and decorate. Her signature response to many things was a heartfelt "oh my goodness." While she was a good cook, she wasn’t particularly fond of cooking, though she did have a soft spot for good Mexican food. A dedicated fan of Tennessee Volunteer football, Sharon cheered and chanted with the crowd while watching the games, embodying the true spirit of a die-hard fan. It was in Tennessee that she met the love of her life, Rocky, through mutual friends. He was instantly captivated by her beauty and long legs. Their love story blossomed, and they were blessed with a daughter, Danielle, whom Sharon considered her "miracle baby". Mountain Dew was her coffee, and she would start her day with a cup, sipping it as she prepared for the day ahead. Her family was her world, and she loved them deeply. Every morning, her daughter, Danielle, could expect a loving message from her, reminding her of Sharon’s unwavering love. Sharon was dedicated to her job at Wal-Mart, where she served as a department head and used her vibrant personality to make a difference in the lives of her colleagues and customers. She will be remembered for her caring heart, infectious personality, and the light she brought into the lives of those around her. Her legacy of love and warmth will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, cherished forever.

Left to honor her memory is her husband, James "Rocky" Phelps; daughter, Danielle Phelps and fiancé, KC Mitchell; step-daughter, Sarah Potter and husband, Brandon; brother, Steve Hensley; sister, Terri Ralph and husband, Bill; niece, Kayla Hensley; step-son, Tim Pessink; grandchildren, Aidan Potter, Zoe Potter, Patrick Pessink, Lina Pessink, and Ashlynn Pessink; and a host of extended family, friends, coworkers, and loved ones.
