Shannen Shapiro Obituary

Shannen Shikiah Shapiro, age 51, passed away on December 28, 2021. She was born on October 21, 1970 to Glenn King and Pam Brinkley in Martinez, CA.

The challenges faced in life so often disguise themselves as circumstance, yet as the road is journeyed, the beautiful reality that each of the steps were crafting something beautiful becomes the testimony of one’s smile and the song of the heart. Shannen’s life was such, a living tribute of simplicity and timeless beauty. She loved; and with the blessing of each of her children, then later grandchildren, there was a new home found for more of that love. Yet her greatest love, her true love, the love that remade her and allowed her to blossom without hinderance, was discovered on the day that Jesus and Shannen met. She devoted herself to him for the rest of her life and never looked back, pouring herself into whatever capacity was available at her church, Pine Forest Baptist. During her career at Jefferson County Adult Probation, she diligently worked for decades, known for her work ethic and dedication. In her time away from work, she enjoyed spending time with her children and satisfying her affection for a good ole nap, though “Mae Mae” was not known to have missed many calls from her grandbabies. She and Rosalie would spend many hours playing on the screen during their video chats, giggling at the filters, from unicorn heads to emojis, placed on each other while spending time together. Never known as a quiet person, she would express herself at the tone and volume that each situation demanded. Just about everything made her happy, with one caveat, as long as it was the opposite of housework. As a mother, she knew well that cleaning with kids in the house is like brushing your teeth while eating Oreos. Shannen was simply a lovely person, none can deny that after meeting her, seeing it in her smile and feeling it emanate from her. Though her journey is over on this Earth, she finished it well, leaving a legacy of love, an example of unshakeable perseverance, and a story that leaves the heart with a smile. She will be missed by all that knew her and shared her journey.

Left to honor her memory are her parents; sons, Chris Hancock and spouse, Shaylah, and Aiden Shapiro; daughters, Erin Hancock and Kaitlyn Shapiro; brother, Sean King; sister, Juliana King; grandchildren, Rosalie and Alice Hancock; and a host of extended family and friends.

Preceding Shannen in death is her son, Branden Michael Hancock.
