Mr. Ronald “Ronnie” Gene Lancon, 82, of Vidor, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. Ronnie was born in Orangefield on December 28, 1938, to Andrew Joseph “A.J.” Lancon and Beula Christine Flanigan.
Ronnie was first and foremost a man of God, valuing his family, church, and time spent in the Bible seeking God’s Wisdom above all else. Married to the love of his life for more than 56 years, Ronnie and Shirley had two children together and were blessed with 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren over the years together. While 56 years of marriage is no small amount of time, the truth is Shirley first laid claim to Ronnie when she first saw him when she was just 12 years old and from that moment knew she had seen the man she was going to marry one day. A lifetime of family meals, road trips, church functions where he was truly the life of the party, and so much more leave a wealth of cherished memories of this quiet but wonderfully dry witted man. A proud veteran of the US Army, Ronnie was lucky enough to experience first-hand every little boy’s dream of playing with tanks while he served and drove tanks in the military. It is most likely Ronnie’s love of salt-water fishing stems from his time spent on the shores in South America during his service to our country. When not working hard to provide for his family, Ronnie continued to lead by example for his family and friends- constantly demonstrating the values and actions of a man with a strong moral grounding and a heart for the Lord. Ronnie was also an active member of the Pipefitters Local 195 in Nederland for more than 20 years, using his talent in both pipefitting and welding in various applications over the years. A man of quiet strength, Ronnie was an amazing partner, father, Papaw, friend, and even mentor to all lucky enough to have known him. You might have had the chance to sample his famous gumbo, which his carefully taught his son Greg to make when he was just 14; or perhaps you just got to enjoy a conversation with him or listen to a good song- whatever the interactions with Ronnie, he was always fun to be around with a genuine sense of humor. While all who knew Ronnie will miss him deeply, there are none who are not rejoicing that Ronnie has taken his wings and finally flown home.
Left to cherish his memory is his beautiful wife, Shirley Jean Sumrall Lancon of Vidor; his children: Tracey Yvette Lancon Myers and husband Hugh of Vidor, and Gregory Allen Lancon of Vidor; his grandchildren: Andrew Joseph Myers and wife Tara, Crystal Yvette Myers, Raven Pearl Lancon, and Gavin Allen Lancon; and his great-grandchildren: Andi, Riley, and Marshall; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, church family members and friends.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Vernon Charles Lancon and Sandra Elaine Smith.
Serving as pallbearers will be Don Dalton, Kent Dalton, Vance Springfield, Justin Sumrall, Jacob Riley, and Terrell Brister. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Smith, Curtis Bryant, Frank Harvill, Cody Sumrall, Gavin Lancon, Ethan Dalton, Dax Dalton, Dennis Cooley, and Preston Flanigan.
Ronnie’s life honoring visitation will be Sunday, June 27, 2021, from 2:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m., at Pentecostals of Pine Forest Church, 5005 N Main St. Vidor, TX 77662 with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. Ronnie will be laid to rest on Monday, June 28, 2021, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Restlawn Memorial Park, 2725 N Main St Vidor, TX 77662 with presentation of military honors.
