Roland Harris Norwood, age 66, of Lumberton, TX, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025. He was born on June 15, 1958, in Port Arthur, TX to Doris "Dolly" Duplantis Norwood and W.R. "Cowboy" Norwood.
A man defined by his steadfast determination, meticulous attention to detail, and a sweetness that touched everyone around him. Roland was as stubborn in his pursuits as he was kind in his everyday moments, and he approached life with a unique blend of intelligence and gentle humor. His career as a design draftsman in engineering took him to Vicksburg, where his precision and commitment became the standard for excellence. Yet, outside the workbench and blueprints, his heart belonged to the simple pleasures in life, a passion that reminded all who knew him that life’s true value lies in its little joys. Roland had a special love for fishing, albeit with a twist that only he could pull off: while he relished every moment out on the water, he would happily leave the cleaning of his catch to his one and only, Connie. It was on a heartfelt New Year’s that he met Connie, the love of his life, and their beautiful story culminated in a marriage celebrated on New Year’s Eve of 1998. Together, they built a life steeped in shared laughter, steadfast partnership, and affectionate traditions that will be forever cherished. He found great comfort and joy in old Country music and good food. A true enthusiast, if he was a fan of a movie or show, he would watch it over and over again. His voice, rich with memory, could recall every song he ever loved, and his spontaneous singing would often fill a room. Though he may no longer be with us, the memories of his character, his musical heart, and his joyful soul will forever remain in our hearts.
Left to honor his memory is his beloved wife, Connie Lynn Norwood; sons, Adam Garrett Norwood and fiancé, Mia, and Aaron Joshua Norwood; step son, Frank Mendoza IV and wife, Robin Weatherford; step daughter, Olivia Mendoza and partner, Kelly Jordan; sister, Christie McNeill and husband, Charles; grandchild, Kylan Jordan; sister in law, Karen Norwood; his 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 13 chickens; as well as a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.
Preceding Roland in death are his parents; daughter, Lindsey Joelle Norwood; and brother, Douglas Norwood.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lumberton Family Funeral Home.
