Roger Dale Hawthorne, 84, of Lumberton, TX, passed away on October 25, 2023. He was born in Kirbyville, TX, September 9, 1939, to J.C. Hawthorne, Jr., and Trudie Hawthorne. He is survived by his wife, Marty; sons, Dale and Alton; granddaughter, Rylan Aubrey; sisters, Martha Hawthorne and Jeanie Turrentine; brother, Gary Hawthorne and wife, Marilyn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and his honorary sons, Gunnar Homme, Mark Mason, Dennis Kibodeaux, and Chris Farren.
Roger served six years in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by Air Liquid, Nederland, TX, as a Senior Measurement Technician. He was a long-time member of Woodcrest Methodist Church in Lumberton, TX. Roger was very active in the Emmaus Community and Kairos Prison Ministry. He and his wife sponsored many people on their walk to Emmaus.
Roger was an avid ham radio operator and antique clock collector. He thoroughly loved camping and listening to classical music. He was a lover of all animals, and they knew to seek him out when injured or hungry.
Roger had a very kind heart and giving spirit. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Roger’s life honoring memorial service will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., with a luncheon and a time of speaking, at Woodcrest Methodist Church.
