Rodney Millner Obituary

Rodney Earl Millner

1951-2019

Rodney Earl Millner, age 67, left this life on January 18, 2019. He was born in Beaumont, TX on June 15, 1951 to James Earl Millner and Virginia Fay Clark Millner.

Dependable and unique, Rodney was committed to certain things throughout his life. He was quiet and hard to read at times but so quick to help others. If he knew you needed it, help would come without hesitation. Some people collect rocks or work on cars, he enjoyed watching money grow. Making money was not important, it was for the fun of it. With a deep, off-key voice, he passionately sang in his own unique vocal range. Rodney’s driving ability was noted by his passengers; a two-foot driver, he could make others regret their decision to ride shotgun. As the firstborn in his family, he was the big brother, caring for and mentoring his baby sister, Debbie, and testing his parent’s patience and setting a few things on fire with his brother, David. Working at K-mart to put himself through college, he achieved a successful career in accounting, working at Rogers Brothers and FivePoint Credit Union. He met and fell in love with a young lady named Ann at a youth event with his brother, David. Ann and Rodney were made for each other. They just fit perfectly together and married on April 2, 1976. He lost Ann in a wreck only five years into their marriage and would spend the rest of his life as a bachelor. If there was ever a guy that would make a good bachelor, it was Rodney. He loved people, yet he also loved his alone time; retiring early to travel, he would often take trips, like an Alaskan Cruise, by himself. Like most bachelors, he lived off frozen dinners, fast food and eating out. Affectionately regarded by his nieces and nephews, Uncle Rodney was deeply involved in their lives; he went to all their school functions and sporting events, travelled on their family vacations and never missed one of their birthday parties. As a faithful member of Rosedale Baptist, Rodney’s life revolved around his church: exercising his accounting skills as church Treasurer, using his well-known driving abilities ferrying folks in the church van, expressing his vocal range in the church choir, making the morning announcements and even serving as the only Deacon for a span of time. Though he would not have made it as a stand-up comic, he was quite a character and funny in his own way. Rodney may have been quiet and low-key, but he will be fondly remembered for his devotion to the ones he loved, and as he would say “I heard that.”

Left to honor his memory is his sister, Debbie Turner and husband, Max, of Lumberton, TX; brother, David Millner and wife, Debbie, of Orange, TX; nieces, Amber Hunter and husband, Jae, of Pearland, TX, Holly Bush and husband, Aaron, of Bridge City, TX and Amanda Danna and husband, Seth, of Beaumont, TX; aunt, Connie Reese and husband, Larry, of Colorado; and great nieces and nephews, Reagan Hunter, Kamryn Bush, Kennedy Hunter, Aaden Bush, Anastyn Bush, Hayes Hunter, Luca Danna and Aspen Danna.

Rodney is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joy Ann Millner; and great-nephew, Thomas James Paul Bush.

Rodney's family would like to acknowledge appreciation to Sunshine and her employees for taking care of him during his extended illness.
