Roderick Clark Obituary

Roderick Dale Clark

1958 - 2020

Roderick Dale Clark, age 61, passed away on February 7, 2020. Rod was born on March 2, 1958 to James Augusta Foye and Georgia Marie Clark.

Loving and giving, Rod cared about others. He was the ultimate family man. Few things would hinder Rod from expressing himself, and at times he could be straightforward. If he thought that something needed to be said, he said it, whether affectionate or sourced from his opinions. Raised in New Bern, North Carolina, he joined the United States’ Army at age 17, traveling the world and serving in the Military Police Corps. While stationed in Belgium, he met Carla. Though they could not speak the same language, they were smitten and found communication through an available dictionary. After dating for about 18 months, they sealed their love in marriage on October 1, 1983. While Rod continued to serve, they lived at various bases, and were blessed with a daughter and son. After his service, Rod would spend 30+ years as a correctional officer until his retirement. His incredible talent and innate imaginative mind inspired him to create art out of the simplest of household goods. From scorpions to spiders, most of the time out of plastic bottles, Rod would gift many friends and coworkers with his designs. For Carla, due to her dislike of harsher creatures, he made a beautiful hummingbird. He was the ultimate family man, loving his kids and spoiling his grandsons, once they came along. Though he is gone, Rod’s special memory will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife of 36 years, Carla D’alelio Clark; son, Donavan Clark of North Hollywood, CA; daughter, Cassandra Clark of Lumberton, TX; brothers, Victor Clark and wife, Vanessa, of Winston-Salem, NC, Jameson Clark of Washington, D.C., and Daryl Clark and wife, Mary, of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Mary Clark of Maryland and Connie Clark of Fort Worth, TX; grandsons, Abriel Baker and Asher Baker; longtime friend, Joe Landry; and a host of extended family, friends and loved ones.

Preceding Rod in death are his parents and brother, Randy Clark.

Services are to be held by his family at a later date.
