Robert Schoelles Obituary

Robert John Schoelles, age 61, of Dayton, TX, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. He was born on July 18, 1962, in Lockport, NY, to Robert and Mary Boyer Schoelles.

Robert was a Texan, even though he was “a damn Yankee.” A big patriot, very conservative, and a hard worker; he expected a lot out of people, but he gave a lot too! He served as a Marine at Camp Lejeune, 21.5 years of Army National Reserve, a volunteer firefighter, EMT, worked for Homeland Security, and Liberty Sherriff’s department; he was selfless, always helping everyone. Robert had his softer side too and could often be found watching a Hallmark Christmas movie or loving on his dogs. He believed in “Bigfoot” and even saw him once! His various jobs and hobbies gave him a chance to travel the world, sometimes cruising on his motorcycle, other times exploring another world through scuba diving; he never slowed down. Robert will be dearly missed, and we look forward to the day that we are reunited with him and his lord Jesus in Glory!

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Lisa Lee Schoelles; sons, Anthony David Ikner and partner Dani, and Ian Lee; daughter, Jessica Collier and husband Mark; sisters, Kathy Butts and husband Larry, Tammy Fleisher and husband Bill;  grandchildren, Dawson, Emmerson, Sebastian, and one on the way; mother-in-law, Verna Lee; sister-in-law, Stacy Golson and husband, Jaye; brother-in-law, Steven Lee and wife, Kimberly; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers please make to donations to Wounded Warrior Project and Dauschund Rescue of Houston.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of the Memorial Herman Jones Unit, doctors Hsu, Esquinazi, and Blanco, his oncology care team, and the staff at the imaging department of Memorial Hermann Upper Kirby. In addition, we thank Christy Williams for the love and encouragement she showed while caring for the “Old Man”. Also, to the members of Trinity Baptist Church in Vidor, thank you for all you’ve done for us. The prayers, the cards, the calls, and the help you gave getting Robert into church will always be remembered. And finally, to our greatest, most steadfast Prayer Warriors, Verna Lee, a very big Thank You. Momma, I don’t know how I would have made it through this without your prayers. He loved you very much.
