Richard “Gene” Smith, age 77, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025. He was born on June 04, 1947, in Foley, AL, to George RT and Cleo Boutwell Smith.
Gene grew up with a love for the great outdoors, often spending his weekends fishing, camping, and enjoying the scenery. Once on his own, he embarked on a successful lineman career that spanned over decades. He was known for his dedication, expertise, and unwavering work ethic. Gene served on the board of directors of several local organizations, contributing his knowledge and passion for the community. He supported his family and was willing to drive no matter the distance to spend time with them.
A true Texan at heart, Gene loved deer hunting and had a deep appreciation for westerns. He was rarely seen without his signature cowboy hat and boots, regardless of the fact that the love of his life did not prefer his attire. Gene also had a unique talent for making his own syrup, a skill that was cherished by his family and friends.
Gene was a wonderful father who always put his family first. He was a devoted husband, loving and cherishing his Bobby for 50 years. He was a people person, known for his friendly demeanor and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. He touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity, always putting others' needs before his own. Gene's exceptional personality will be missed, but his tall tales, life lessons, and love will live on forever.
