Richard Miller Obituary

Richard Joseph Miller, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. He was born on June 9, 1944, in Kinross, IA, to Ivan and Ruby Runion Miller.

A man of unwavering patience, forgiveness, and honor, Richard was born as a humble Iowa farm boy and grew into a man of immense character. He served his country honorably in both Vietnam and Korea as an enlisted member of the Army. Upon returning home, he forged a new path as an ironworker. His life took a beautiful turn when he moved to Houston and met his love and his future, Billie Ruth. Through her five children, Richard found the joy of fatherhood and later the blessings of becoming a grandfather. His love for his family was evident in the little things, like never missing a birthday or special occasion to send a heartfelt card. Richard was a man of simplicity, content to keep one channel on his television, although he always found joy in supporting his favorite football teams. Despite a debilitating work injury that left him paralyzed from the waist down, Richard's spirit and independence never wavered. Where others saw obstacles, he saw opportunities—turning what some might consider trash into treasured projects. He cherished his family deeply, and his love for his wife and children was boundless. In his leisure time, Richard enjoyed auctions, antiquing, and working around the house, finding fulfillment in the little joys of life. His legacy is one of resilience, love, and an indomitable spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Richard’s memory will forever be a source of inspiration and warmth.

Left to honor Richard’s memory are his children, Steve “Bubba” Wagner and wife, Pamela, Daniel Wagner and wife, Deanna, Allen Wagner and wife, Mary Anne, Karen Bartek and Lori Ann Wagner; sister, Beverly Ring; grandchildren, Jason Wagner and Maribel, Lane Wagner and wife, Carley, Danielle Smith and husband, Andy, Lacey Kent and husband, Scott, Haley Hone and husband, Johnny, David Thieme and wife, Lauren, and Shawn Howard; great grandchildren, Austin, Addison, Caitlyn, Matthew, Abigail, Madilyn, Faith, Dax, Teddy, Colin, Bodhi, Abel, Atlas, and Nova; as well as a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Billie Ruth Miller.
