Rebekah "Becky" Lockhart Obituary

Rebekah "Becky" Ruth Lockhart, age 76, of Lumberton, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024. She was born on January 21, 1948, in Laurel, Mississippi, to James Clinton and Eva Robinson Thornton. She dedicated her life to caring for others with unwavering compassion and kindness.

There are not enough words to describe the inherent beauty of her soul; she was good, praiseworthy, kindhearted. She was a role model, a devoted mother, and a companion that brought with her only support and love. Rebekah’s legacy extends beyond her professional achievements. She was not only an exceptional healthcare provider but also a beacon of hope and encouragement for those around her. Her warm smile and gentle demeanor touched the hearts of countless patients, colleagues, and friends. In her free time, Rebekah found another home for her love in the company of very, very large dogs. Their loyal companionship brought her immense joy, and she was an advocate for the well-being of these gentle giants. Her memory will forever live on in the lives she touched, the lives she healed, and the lives she inspired. Becky leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but her legacy of compassion and selflessness will continue to guide us.

May Rebekah rest in peace, knowing that her legacy of love and service will endure.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Charles Lockhart; daughters, Donna Brogan and husband, John Thomas, Shannon Johnson, Starr Johnson, and Rein Crawford; son, Hursley Johnson; brothers, Robert Thornton and wife, Deb and Clifton Thornton; sisters, Jan Porter and husband, Vance, Martha Bass, Juanita Eason, Cindy Biddle, June Owens, and Cheryl Ard; granddaughter, Caitlyn Lockhart, who fondly knew her as "BeBe"; adopted feline grandson, Huckleberry Brogan; KiKi the Parrot, 2 ducks, a dog, a bird, and a turtle; and a host of extended family, friends and loved ones.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, William A. Harper; husband, Edward Sherry Jr.; and beloved St. Bernard, Candace Bergen Harper Dear, named by her daughter Donna.
