Raymond Rasberry Jr. Obituary

Mr. Raymond Ofield Rasberry Jr., 71, of Lumberton, passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side on Thursday, October 21, 2021. Raymond was born on June 23, 1950, in Woodville, TX to Frances Holton Rasberry and Raymond Rasberry Sr. One of 6 children growing up, Raymond came up always knowing the value and importance of family. At the age of just 18, Raymond was drafted into the US Army where he proudly served our great country in the Vietnam War. Raymond met the love of his life before being drafted, and upon his return from Vietnam he made sure to marry Charlene just as soon as he could. The two were married in June of 1972 and spent more than 49 years together. Raymond and Charlene had three children and would eventually become amazing grandparents as well as parents.

Raymond was a hard worker, always willing to do whatever was needed for those he loved. Known for his “Mr. Fix-It” talents, there was little he couldn’t do or build; Raymond even built his own race car! Raymond got into the oil field soon after he started having children and spent more than 40 years working as an operator and field supervisor before retiring. Retirement was good to Raymond, giving him more time for some of his favorite pastimes like fishing up at his camp on Sam Rayburn Lake or headed out to Delta Downs with Charlene by his side. This dedicated husband and family man was a wonderful partner, husband, father, and grandpa to his family- setting an example of true love and leadership through his daily actions and demonstrations of devotion and support to his family. Raymond was an amazing man with a huge heart, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Charlene Rasberry; his children, Clint Rasberry and wife Rhonda, Evette Fontana and husband Chris, and Nadine Wood; his siblings, Joyce Brown, Roger “Buddy” Rasberry, Leon Rasberry, Phillis Rasberry, and Kathy Ellerbee; his grandchildren, Austin Rasberry and wife Cara, Maegan Barnett and husband Cody, Jude Rasberry, Noel Rath and husband Spencer, Ashlynn Wood, and Lily Wood; his great-grandchildren, Kyler, Peyton, Taylor, Kevin, Dahlia, Tanner, and Eleanor; and of course many extended family members, co-workers, and friends through the years.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Neil Frances Holton Rasberry and Raymond Ofield Rasberry Sr.
