Rachel Louise Reed

Rachel Louise (Higgins) Reed, age 85, passed away on December 1, 2019. She was born in Blossom, TX on February 24, 1934 and raised by her loving parents, Wiley and Janie Jones Higgins.

Rachel Reed was an extraordinary woman with a lot of love and a big heart. She married the love of her life, Paul Daniel Reed, and spent 51 affectionate years as his wife. She was a dedicated and doting mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her children, grandchildren and great-children where her greatest joy and they never failed to put a sparkle in her eye and a smile on her face. She had many treasured friendships during her lifetime, all of which she cherished deeply. Rachel also loved her some Jesus, and as such serving as the Florida Ave Baptist church secretary for much of the 60’s and 70’s suited her well. Some of her favorite things were listening to country music, eating Bluebell ice cream, and playing games with her family- particularly Wahoo and Dominoes. Rachel was also an avid bowler, she even served as the league president. She was skilled with her hands and loved to sew. She will always be remembered for the precious Halloween costumes she would make for Ashley and the clothes she loved to sew for her children. No doubt, Rachel has left many hearts covered with her finger prints, and she will be missed by her numerous family and friends.

Left to honor her memory are her daughters, Peggy Fontenot and husband Tim, and Susan Hatcher; son, Paul Michel Reed and wife Donna; brother, Wiley Higgins Jr. and wife JoAnn; grandchildren, Brian Butler, Chrissy Butler, Christina Borghese, Trevor Reed, Ashley Reed, and Weslyn Newman; great grandchildren, Macy and Harper Newman, Connor, Camden, and Jett Butler, Macayla Simmons, Seth Butler, Trinity and Kaydence Butler, Catherine and Kalynn Borghese, and Bella Galloso; and great-great grandchildren, Remington, Oakleigh, Fynnleigh, and Lelanh.

Rachel is preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Paul Daniel Reed; parents, Wiley and Janie Higgins; brother Lawrence Higgins; and her nephew Jake Higgins.

To honor Rachel's life, the family will have a time of visitation on Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S. Main St., Lumberton, TX 77657.
