Paula (VanZandt) Overmyer

Paula Overmyer, age 75, of Kountze, TX passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024. She was born in Waxahachie, TX, on February 8, 1949, to Rev. William Delmer and Betty Dean Moore VanZandt.

A remarkable woman whose faith was her steadfast anchor throughout her earthly journey. Paula loved God with her entire heart, mind, and soul, a devotion that shaped her every action and interaction. She cared about others; she loved deeply and unconditionally, even when that love was not reciprocated. Despite her small stature, Paula was a force of life and passion. Her gentle sweetness harmonized seamlessly with an intensity of expression, reminiscent of the four-part harmonies she adored in her beloved quartets. Distance was never a barrier for Paula; she would traverse mountains and cross rivers to be with the ones she loved and who needed her. Born the daughter of a minister, Paula traveled extensively with her family spreading the Word before finally settling in Hardin County. She carried herself with elegance and class, always beautifully and tastefully dressed. Paula was a firecracker, full of energy and spirit, and even as her physical strength waned, her spirit of love radiated in all its fullness. Paula took immense pride in her grandchildren, fiercely protective and honored to be known as their cherished "Memaw." Her legacy of love, faith, and unwavering commitment to family and friends will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Paula’s life was a testament to the power of love and faith. Though she may no longer walk among us, her spirit continues to climb mountains and cross rivers, guiding and inspiring us from above. Rest in peace, dear Paula. Your love and light will always be with us.

Left to honor her memory is her daughter, Lisa Lahaye and husband, Brian; son, Billy Marcontell and wife, Kay; sister, Theresa VanZandt; sister-in-law, Marilyn VanZandt; grandchildren, Alyssa Anderson and husband, Tyler, Cody Marcontell and wife, Payton, Randi Weeren and husband, Jacob, and Tiffany Henry and husband, Josh; great-grandchildren, Everett, Violet, Remy, Lily, and Amara; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Paula in death are her parents; beloved husband, Edgar Guest VanZandt; and brother, Larry VanZandt.
