Paul VanSlyke Jr. Obituary

Paul VanSlyke Jr., born December 12, 1952, in Orange, Texas, passed away on October 30, 2021 1:36pm, at Baptist Hospital Beaumont, Texas, at 68 years old, son of Rachel Vanslyke.

Paul enjoyed building in his Shop: he could build just about anything: furniture, cabinets, porches, and farm animal homes. He loved raising animals. He also loved to fish when he could. If he didn't come home with anything, he would make up a story about how he caught a lot but threw them back. When he wasn't doing any of these things, he enjoyed watching old western shows or getting on Facebook talking politics and going to Facebook Jail. He was a very laid-back man that enjoyed being comfortable and staying busy. In his down time, he spent a lot of time with his 2 youngest grandsons- Alex and Daniel Paul almost daily; if he didn't have them, he would drive to them. Also, taking his grandson Cole Chaisson to practice was always a treat for him. Paul drove an 18-wheeler for many years before retirement; he has been to all 50 states.  He was well known for parallel parking a big rig. Paul was a jokester; he liked to pick and make everyone laugh. But he was also a very blunt man as well.  But very caring and was always willing to help when he could. Most of all he LOVED his family and being with us even if it meant him coming to your house and taking the remote. He was madly in love with his wife Brenda, they met while both working for the Hwy Dept. Brenda and Paul went on 1 date, he never left.  A few weeks later, they were married and stayed married for 43 years. His wife, mother, kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, sisters, nephew, nieces, and friends will miss him dearly. May he rest High now with Jesus. You will be very missed.

Paul leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years of marriage, Brenda L. VanSlyke. Paul and Brenda lived together in Nome, TX for 26 years before Paul's passing. Paul also leaves behind his mother, Rachel VanSlyke of Pineville, Louisiana; his 2 children, daughter, Tina Irene Linderman and son, Christopher Joseph Chaisson; his 3 dogs Ebbie, Bud, and Tinkerbell; his sisters, Becky Smith, Paula VanSlyke, Polly Wood, and Janet Johnson; his grandchildren, Alexandria Johnson-Greer, Christopher K. Chaisson, Christopher T. Chaisson, Jerred Johnson, Anthony Herring, Devin Herring, and Cole C. Chaisson; his great-grandchildren, Justin Alexander Greer "Alex", Daniel Paul Greer , Maddyn Chaisson, Camila Chaisson and soon to be Ridge Kaigen Chaisson; as well as many nephews and nieces.

Paul is reunited with his Uncle/Like a father, Samuel "Sammy" VanSlyke; his sisters, Flara Ann Nickerson; his brother, Philip Wayne VanSlyke, and younger Brother Robert Lynn VanSlyke; his grandmother, Nita VanSlyke; his grandfather, Everette VanSlyke; his grandmother, Flara Ann Brown; his grandfather, Gary Brown; his nieces, Serina VanSlyke Clark and Christy Gonzales; and nephew, Gilbert Gonzales.
