Patricia "Sissy" Ann West

Patricia Ann West, age 75, of Lumberton, TX passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023. She was born in Beaumont, Texas, on December 3, 1947, to Otha D. and Doris McNeely West.

There was in her a perfect combination of sass and class, a mold of strength, love, and an occasional forthrightness. Family was her everything. She was the tie that held as a strong bond for her loved ones, and in her they found support and encouragement. She was “Sissy”, the only daughter of her family, and this became a fitting name that she carried with her through life. Today was her focus, striving to make the most of it by living for the moments that make life special. Sissy was personable, friendly, and welcoming, which found her rarely left without a smile. Joy came from pouring herself into family gatherings, holidays, and her many hobbies. Life had its struggles, yet she would raise her head and find a path through the hardships, placing her trust in the Lord. Though reserved in her younger years, in the peace of deliverance, she found her voice. Not only was she a fantastic cook, but she loved the experience that accompanied food; from baking with her grandkids to the catering of her sons-in-law, it represented time with the people that she loved the most. She will be missed, and her memory cherished, until the day that her loved ones see her again.

Left to honor her memory are her daughters, Stacie B. Swearingen and husband, Chad, of Lumberton, TX, and Brandie S. Payne and husband, James, of Lumberton, TX; brother, Mike West, of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Joseph Cade Chiappetta, Randi Smith, Sierra Smith, Joey Oglesbee, Cole Swearingen and wife, Zoe, Carley Swearingen, Chris Swearingen and wife, Kelsey, and Britton J. Payne and wife, Kourtney; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melvin Burge; her parents; and brothers, Bill West, and Jack West.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Grace Church. Patricia’s life honoring funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ray McNames officiating. Interment will follow at Leatherwood Cemetery.
