Myrtie Jane Laird Fore, age 83, passed away on January 25, 2022. She was born on November 15, 1938 to Edward Ellis and Beatrice Poole Laird in Kountze, TX.
A beautiful soul, her heart was a harmony of unmitigated love, persistent fidelity, and tireless, unwavering care. In Myrtie, there was a motherly essence; she was a caretaker, a matriarch. As the eldest of her seven siblings, she was a second mother to her three youngest siblings, helping her own mother to care for them. She was strict at times, but it came not from a desire to imbue only discipline, but just as her Heavenly Father, it was those she loved most that she molded with the caress of her chastening. In her late teens, there was a young logger working near her family home who’s eye she caught. Tommy saw in Myrtie something special, and once obtaining the permission of her father, he took her out in his log truck as they courted. Marrying on June 25, 1955, their love blossomed into a life together, and with the blessing of their five children, led Myrtie back to her calling of motherhood. Her children were honored to have her as their “Momma”. There never was a time that her concern for them waned, nor for any of her loved ones; Myrtie’s concern was always expressed with a simple phrase, “When y’all get home, call me.” Family was everything to her, whether it was attending church together at Little Rock Assembly of God, enjoying frequent barbecues, or sitting together playing games or watching Wheel of Fortune. Once she became “NaNa” and “Big NaNa”, she discovered another outlet for all the care in her heart; she loved her grandchildren. On Tuesday, Myrtie made it to her true home, as she took her last breath in this Earthly plane. Though she will be missed for now, there is no more concern for her journey, as she made it home safe into the embrace of her departed loved ones and the everlasting light of her Savior.
Left to honor her memory is her daughter, Janie Beatrice Fore Price; sons, Tommy Ray Fore and wife, Patricia, William Andy Fore and wife, Molly, John Lester Fore and wife, Mary; daughter-in-law, Elisha Perry; brothers, Arthur Laird and Tarbert Laird; sisters, Elizabeth Irene Brown and husband, Mike, and Jan “Rhetter” Haines and husband, Claude “Butch”; grandchildren, Tommy Wayne Fore and wife, Denise, Tonya Bargerhoff and husband, Jason; Dustin Fore and wife, Donna, Hannah Fore, Timothy Holcombe, Joseph Holcombe, Kristina Abel and husband, Derek, Christopher Fore, Karina Lopez and husband, Timothy, Trisha Phillips and Kerra Fore; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of extended family and friends.
