Morgan "Gene" Powell

On Sunday, July 18, 2021, Morgan Gene Powell, loving husband, Daddy, Pawpaw, and Gramps made it to his final destination at the age of 79.

Gene was born on February 7, 1942, in Hull, TX to George and Charline Powell. He served in the U.S. Army from April 4, 1962 to April 3, 1964 in White Sands, NM and then drove an 18-Wheeler cross country for the remainder of his life.

On July 18, 1964, he married the love of his life, Johnnie Ree Fondren. They raised two daughters, Tammy and Gena. Gene loved playing 42, Shang-hi, BBQing and was the official taste tester of all food before anyone ate. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, whether it was on the porch or around the table with his coffee. Gene was also known for his quick wit and infectious smile and was the life of the party.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, George and Charline and his sister Thearline.

He is survived by his wife. Johnnie; his daughters, Tammy Russell and husband Chester of Fred, TX, Gena Powell of Lumberton, TX; his grandsons, Donald Lewis Jr., Kirk Matthew Lewis and wife Devin, Tyler Wilson, Justin LeBoeuf, Charles Russell and Christian Russell; his greatgrandbabies, Gabby, Eli, Faith, Lily, Xavier, Emily, and Wylie; his nieces, Cheryl Gore, Brenda Smith, and Donna Martinez.

A time of life honoring visitation will be held on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 10:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S Main St. Lumberton, TX 77657.
