Merle Marie Steely

Merle Marie Steely, age 94, of Lumberton, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. She was born in Port Arthur, TX, on September 28, 1928, to James W. and Mary Frances Harmon.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Harvey F. Steely of Lumberton, TX; sons, Harvey F. Steely Jr. “Rick” and wife, Roxanne, of Acworth, GA, David Steely and wife, Jodi, of Dallas, TX; daughters, Kathryn Ann Brittain of Dallas, TX, Theresa Steely Ellison and husband, Donnie, of Atascocita, TX; grandchildren, Joshua Steely and wife, Bethany, Chelsea Lee and husband, Michael, Elizabeth Reilly and husband, Ben, Luke Steely, Marlo Marie Rees, Tyler David Steely and wife, Katlyn, Madison Marie Steely, Joseph Ellison and wife, Amanda, and Nancy Ellison ; great-grandchildren, Ellie Steely, Mason Steely, Emelynn Steely, Wyatt Lee, Lucy Lee, Artem Reilly, Graham Reilly, Strider Anthony Rees, and Brittain Graham Rees; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Merle in death are her parents; brothers, J.W. “Jiggs” Harmon and Nathaniel “Buddy” Harmon; and grandson, Anthony Messina.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at First Christian Church. Merle’s life honoring funeral service will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
