Maxine Baker Obituary

Maxine Lenora Baker

1935 – 2018

Maxine Lenora Baker, age 82, left this life on October 15, 2018. She was born in Wasola, MO on December 20, 1935 to Blanche Casteel Zug and Merlin Howard Zug.

A modern-day pioneer woman, Maxine was a self-reliant person that would go after what she wanted in life. Throughout her life, she loved to learn how to do things on her own. Whether it was canning, making her own soap or cooking, Maxine would find her own way to handle “sitiations” and challenges in her life. She never felt sorry for herself or let the struggles of life bring her down, determining to even keep going at the end after breaking her hips and arm. She was a Naturalist, often using her knowledge of natural health, herbs and essential oils to remedy the ailments of close friends. “The Kitchen”, the center of her crafts, was the source of many of her creations. Sharing her knowledge on soap making and skills was something she did often, even teaching her son, Glenn, how to make her soap. Maxine loved the Gospel and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 30 years. Genealogy was a passion that she followed for years, teaching classes and later becoming a Family History Consultant for the Church. Whether she was known as “Aunt Maxine” or “Chicken Granny”, her little ways of expressing herself will be remembered by those she loved.

Left to honor her memory are a daughter, Sherry Briggs and husband, Rhett, of Idaho Falls, ID; sons, Gary Foerester and wife, Cecilia, of Giddings, TX, Glenn “Ed” Foerester of Giddings, TX, Steve Foerester of Somewhere in Arkansas, Paul Baker and wife, Karen, of Vidor, TX; Cousin Glenda; and numerous grandchildren, great-children and close friends.

Maxine’s life-honoring service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2018, at Williamson Cemetery in Vidor, TX, with Barry Pittman officiating.
