Mary Ann Becka

Ms. Mary Ann Becka, 54, of Lumberton, passed away on September 8, 2021. Mary Ann was born the oldest of three girls to Jerry Charles Becka Jr. and Lucrecia Juarez Becka on October 4, 1966, in Laredo, Texas. Mary Ann was a natural leader, as so many first born children are, and even at a young age her love of knowledge was apparent in her vivacious love for reading. Mary Ann graduated from Lumberton High School and from there went on to attend Lamar University where she earned first a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education and then a Master’s in Counseling. Mary Ann spent her life devoted to the education of others and the school systems she loved so much, working more than 33 years teaching at Pietzsch MacArthur Elementary with Beaumont ISD. When not molding the minds of the future generations, Mary Ann spent her time and energies raising her two sons and enjoying her lifelong friendship with her two younger sisters. Quick to smile and full of wit, Mary Ann was always a bright spot in whatever room she was in; intelligent and dependable Mary Ann was always there for those in her life. Her sudden loss is hard to fathom and her impact on her family and those she encountered in her career and in life will not ever be forgotten. Henry B. Adams said that “A teacher affects eternity; she can never tell where her influence stops,” and Mary Ann’s influence and legacy will certainly go on indefinitely.

 Left to carry on Mary Ann’s legacy are her two sons, Cameron Lee and Braedan Lee; her father, Jerry Charles Becka Jr.; her two sisters, Gail Becka McAdams and Linda Becka Brown; her niece Reagan Brown; and numerous co-workers, friends, and students over the years.

Mary Ann is preceded in death by her beloved mother Lucrecia Juarez Becka.

To honor MaryAnn's life a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 4:00 PM at Lumberton Family Funeral Home (766 S. Main St., Lumberton, TX 77657).
