Mary Helen Droddy, age 60, of Beaumont, TX, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025. She was born in Beaumont, TX, on June 14, 1965, to Arnold and Carolyn Greer Droddy.
Mary possessed a rare kind of strength, one born of grit, grace, and a determination that carried her through life’s twists and turns with her chin held high. She was, without a doubt, one of a kind. If a room was filled with laughter and chatter, you could bet Mary would be the loudest, not stealing the spotlight, but simply because it suited her nature. Her love was steadfast, even if her words were candid. She had a way of reminding you she loved you, whether you were on her good side or not, a reminder that love, to her, meant honesty and presence. Her powerful personality could be felt in every corner of her home, which was kept spotless. She had a knack for making things better, whether it was seasoning a dish with a bit of Morton Season-all or dressing to the nines with a ring on every finger. Mary devotedly journalled, chronicling moments and milestones that were important. She lived proudly and taught fiercely, especially when it came to her daughters. Her lessons weren’t wrapped in lectures, but in example, showing them what strength, beauty, and resilience looked like in practice. After meeting her soulmate, Cliff, they spent over 30 years walking together in love. To her grandchildren, she was their beloved “Scary Maw” or “Mawmaw”, titles earned by her special brand of love. She will be deeply missed, yet her voice and her life will echo in the hearts of those she touched.
Left to honor her memory is her husband, Clifford Rhea Buck; daughters, Sarah Helen Askew and husband, Don, Kitty Breen, Katie Mendieta and husband, Domingo, and Lacy Mendieta and husband, Hilario; father, Arnold Gene Droddy; brothers, Tiger Droddy and wife, Tonya and Cougar Droddy and wife, Angela; sister, Arnette Buck and husband, William “Bull”; grandchildren, Nicholas Gomez, Hailey Goodman, Christopher Mendieta, Brianna Goodman, Justin Mendieta, Emily Mendieta, Larrie Askew, Jasmine Mendieta, and Alexandr Mendieta; as well as many other family members, loved ones, and friends.
Preceding Mary in passing is her mother.
