Lowell Duane Whisenant

Lowell Duane Whisenant, age 82, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024. He was born on October 2, 1942, in Brownfield, TX, to Kermit and Della Dumas Whisenant.

A man whose quiet demeanor belied his immense wisdom, talent, and heart. He was strong-willed and hardheaded, Lowell was always ready to help anyone in need, ensuring that others' needs were met before his own. Lowell wasn't just a jack of all trades; he was a master of all, save for mechanics. He understood the language of wood, and his artistry in woodworking was unparalleled. He could take an old door, a handrail, or any discarded material and breathe new life into it, creating everything from small boxes to entire house frames. If it was free material, Lowell found a use for it. Lowell met the love of his life, Linda, at a tender age in the eighth grade. Their union was meant to be, and they journeyed through life, together and inseparable, in love and joined in soul. Just days after graduating high school, they wed on June 3, 1962. Though often reserved in conversation, when Lowell told a story, everyone would listen intently. In moments of silence, the family's signature conversational pivot, "Sure has been hot in Russia," would bring smiles and laughter. A lover of new technology, Lowell kept up with the times, though his children knew to say, "Daddy is never home" when phone calls came in. Proud of his family, his children and grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Papa," swelled Lowell's heart with pride. He was also a dedicated volunteer firefighter. When not busy with firefighting, he spent his time piddling, fishing, or building something new. His life was a blend of craftsmanship, love, and service. Lowell's legacy of kindness, ingenuity, and dedication will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.

Left to honor his memory is his beloved wife, Linda Jones Whisenant; sons, Clay Whisenant and wife, Kristi, and Troy Whisenant and wife, Lisa; daughter, Tina Hubbard and husband, Larry; sister, Nancy Seydler; grandchildren, Callie LeBlanc and husband Matt, Kate Shepherd and husband, Peter, Shawna Hubbard, Kenzie Hubbard, Josh Hubbard and wife, Christina, Kandice Gordon and husband, Jacob, Troy Whisenant and wife, Monica, Tayla Whisenant, Tarra Millican and husband, Brady, Wyatt Martin and wife, Lucy, and Ely Whisenant; 28 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; as well as host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Lowell in death are his parents; great-grandson, Jimmy Duane Whisenant; brother, Fra Whisenant; and sisters, Sue Cade and Pat Timmons.
