Linda Samuels Obituary

Linda Rae Gibson Samuels, 70, of Vidor, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020. Linda was born September 13, 1949 in Port Arthur, Texas and was raised by his parents George Gibson and Helen Calhoun. Linda was a hard-working woman, who received her Associates Degree twice. After teaching in Mississippi for 9 years, she moved to Texas in 1979 and became an LVN. Linda valued her family, even when they acted a little crazy, and was loved by everyone. She was married to the love of her life, Butch, for 40 years before he passed away in 2009. Her children were her pride and joy until her grandbabies came along, and then of course, they became Nanny’s angels. Nanny truly lived for moments with her grandkids and had the most joy when they would visit. During the 3 years she reside at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home, she was loved by all the staff and residents, even becoming the President of Resident Council. Linda loved enjoying outing and playing bingo with her fellow friends at Oakwood Manor. A ray of sunshine to everyone who knew her, Linda’s kind heart will be cherished by all her family and friends.

Left to cherish Linda’s memory are her sons, James Samuels and wife Rhonda Peevey of Orange, Tx, Alvin Samuels and wife Kimberly of Vidor, Tx, Chris Samuels and partner Belinda of San Antonio, Tx; daughter, Mellissa Peterson and husband Michael of Orange, TX; brother, Joe Gibson and wife Sharon of Slidell, La; sisters, Martha Thornhill of Vidor, Tx, Myrtle Williams of Lumberton, Tx, Suzie Johnson and husband Dennis of Vidor, Tx; grandchildren, Adam, Cassandra and husband Joe , Matthew, Hailey and husband Nathan, Alvin Jr., Patrick and wife Jessica, Elizabeth, Heather and husband Trey, Susan and husband Ro Ro, Michael Jr., Holly and husband Raymond; 20 great-grandchildren as well as 2 on the way; and special friend, Sharron Wheat of Vidor, Tx.

Preceding Linda in death are her parents, George and Helen Gibson; husband, Bennie “Butch” Samuels Jr.; brothers, Jimmy Gibson, William Gibson; brother-in-law, Junior Thornhill and grandson, Douglas Crawford.

Cremation services have been entrusted to Lumberton Family Funeral Home.
