Linda Sue Finch, age 70, passed from this life on August 6, 2020. She was born on September 11, 1949 in Lead, SD, and raised by her mother, Madeline Ruth Gale.
Fiery and devoted, whomever she loved and whatever she endeavored to do, Linda fully invested herself. She was the definition of a mother and a caretaker. The deep love that she had for her family not only endeared Linda to them, but they knew that she lived for them, believed in them, and supported them. She was open and honest: the perfect balance of sincere sweetness and staunch opinions. Sassy at times, this was expressed in the straightforward way she responded to life’s situations and questions, the most often heard being: “Oh, well”, her go to response; when disciplining her children, “You can get glad in the same britches that you got mad in”; and to those she loved and was in the process of forgiving, “I love you, but I don’t like you right now”. She had the attitude of a rottweiler, and body size of a pitbull, but surpassing that tough exterior was the inherent warmth and intimacy within her. From South Dakota, during her enrollment in business school, she caught a glimpse of a young man one day, Crockett Finch. Her heart brought her to express, “Lord, if I got to get pregnant and have his babies, I’m gonna marry him.” In the simplicity of that chance meeting, they fell deeply in love and married on August 27, 1971, which happened to be Crockett’s birthday and allowed him to always remember for sure. She, a Yankee, and he, a Mississippi country boy, they balanced each other out; her willful passion and outgoing nature harmonized with his quietness and supportive tenderness. Their love produced four children, and they were blessed with nine grandchildren, who affectionately called her, “Banana Linda” or “Nana”, and him, “Muffin Crockett”, and she was proud of every single one, making each feel special and loved. As a housewife, she stayed home and raised her children, with “Crock” spoiling his “Poodle” as often as she could. She perfected baking and loved it, and to the delight of Crockett, she perfected his mother’s red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. Linda was one of a kind and left her mark on the hearts of all that met her. As she closed her eyes on Earth, she opened her eyes to be greeted by her Savior and welcomed by her husband and true love, where they will celebrate not only their 49th anniversary, but reunited together forever.
Left to honor her memory are her sons, Jamey Finch and wife, Wendey, of Prosper, TX, Billy Finch of Falls City, TX, and Daniel Finch and wife, Amanda, of Call, TX; daughters, Heather White and husband, Mark, of Lumberton, TX; brother, Rick Nunez-Gale and spouse, Jose, of Vancouver, WA; sister, Judy Smith of Diamonhead, MS; grandchildren, Lexie, Allysun, Nolan, Laine, Shea, Ethan, Gavin, Ivy, and Kole; and a host of extended family, friends and loved ones.
Preceding Linda in death is her beloved husband, Millard Crockett Finch and her mother.
Visitation with family and friends will be Saturday, August 7, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S. Main St., Lumberton, TX 77657.
