Leslie Jones Obituary

Leslie “Les” Jones, 81, of Kountze, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on December 30, 2025.  Born on June 11, 1944, in Beaumont, Texas, Les lived a full and vibrant life rooted in faith, family, and craftsmanship.

Les was the beloved husband of Carliss Jones and devoted father to Leslie Curtis Jones and his wife Blanca.  He was a proud grandfather to David Ryan Jones and Sabrina Renee Jones and cherished great-grandfather to Luciana Rain Jones, Rylen Thomas Farnham, and Amara Amelia Jones.  His love extended to his sisters Nina Powell Parker and Mary Smith, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who were touched by his warmth and humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burbon Ervin Jones and Velma Jones; his sister Edith Raiford; brothers-in-law Walter “Buck” Raiford, Leroy Smith, and Vic Powell; and nephew Homer Powell.

From a young age, Les displayed a deep love for music and fellowship.  At the age of 12, he trusted Christ as his Savior—a decision that shaped the rest of his life.  He remained a faithful churchgoer throughout the years and found joy in participating in the music ministry.  Most recently, he served at First Baptist Church in Village Mills, where his voice and spirit uplifted many.

Les had a gift for bringing joy to others through laughter.  Known for telling jokes that could light up any room, he had an infectious sense of humor that endeared him to all who knew him.  His talents extended beyond words—he was an avid craftsman who found satisfaction in working with leather and wood.  Whether through carpentry or intricate leatherwork, Les poured care into every creation.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Les enjoyed playing various sports throughout his life.  His energy on the field was matched only by his enthusiasm off it—cheering others on with the same passion he brought to every endeavor.

Les’s legacy is one of faithfulness—to God, to family, and to the work of his hands.  His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Carliss would like to sincerely thank the “village” of friends and family who selflessly helped care for Les through his final stages, especially Sheila and Benny, Pam, Aunt Beverly, Arlyn and Amedisys personnel Robbin, Keith, Kim, Chris, Katie and Gayle, and many others, too numerous to mention.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held on January 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Wildwood Baptist Church, 100 Wildwood Drive with visitation at 1:00 PM.
