Lelia M. (Horton) Spirk

Mrs. Lelia Mae Horton Spirk, 80, of Lumberton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Lelia was born on Tuesday, September 23, 1941, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to Mr. Ore Horton and Mrs. Doris (Mayfield) Horton.

Lelia was a kind and loving woman who was devoted to her family. She greatly enjoyed many things that you might take for granted, like being able to sew and gift a quilt to members of her family, working with her flowers amid her birdhouses (which Richard always kept built for her) or whipping up one of her many signature dishes- such as vegetable soup, beef stroganoff, and lasagna. Whenever she could, Lelia loved to get away to the lake and enjoy time with her late husband, Richard, and family. Blessed to have spent many happy years with the love of her life, Richard and Lelia had three children together and both took joy in their roles as grandparents. Mamaw to her grandbabies who truly meant the world to her; Lelia found great comfort in her last few days talking to her grandbabies in particular. Lelia was a strong and confident woman, her counsel and kind heart will be missed by all who knew her, and her memory will not soon be forgotten.

Left to honor her memory is her son, Steven E. Spirk and wife Vicki of Lumberton; her daughters: Sherry L. Spirk of Las Vegas, and Patty Kelley and husband Bill of Lumberton; her  grandchildren: Heather A. Sarver and spouse Corey of Orange, Travis S. Kelley and spouse Jenna of Lumberton, Koleton L. Spirk of Pineville, LA, Morgan B. Kelley of Lumberton, Konner O. Spirk of Vidor, Karly A. Summerlin of Austin, Reid S. Manley of Groves; her great-grandchildren: Elora C. Kelley, Blayne A. Kelley, and Kyler Sarver; and many friends and extended family through the years.

Lelia is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Hebert Spirk; her parents, Doris and Ora Horton; and her brother-in-law, Jack Spirk.

To honor Lelia’s life and legacy, a memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Lumberton Family Funeral Home (766 S. Main St., Lumberton, TX 77657).
