The family of Larry Freeman Richard Sr. is deeply saddened to announce his passing on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Born September 7, 1938, in Lake Charles, LA, Larry was a class of ’57 Vidor Pirate and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served his country in the United States Navy and has grandsons proudly representing the Marines, Navy, and Air Force. He loved traveling, telling jokes, playing cards with the family and enjoyed the excitement of beating the odds. Larry was a healthy and active 87 year-old with a blended family of 8 children.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Joe Richard, Hank Richard and wife, Cassie, and Harry Richard and wife, Dana; daughters, Sherri Norton, Terri Richard, and Judi Thorp. He was blessed with 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren, all who loved him very much; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.
Larry will have a glorious reunion in Heaven when seeing his dad, Otto Desire Richard; his mother, Ethel Champagne Richard; his beloved wife of over 40 years, Janice Rutledge Richard; sons, Larry Jr. and Jay; great-grandson, Baby Axel; brothers, Otto Richard, Leland Richard, and Vernon Richard; and sister, Sheila Leblue.
A memorial service celebrating Larry’s life will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Turning Point Church, 3600 N Main St. Vidor, TX 77662. We invite all who knew and loved him to join us honoring his memory.
