Lamar Anders Obituary

Lamar Anders, age 87, of Vidor, TX, passed from this life on Monday, September 5, 2022. He was born June 28, 1935, in Port Arthur, TX to Barney and Eugena Hester Anders.

Selfless and generous, he devoted himself to the happiness of others and the needs around him. Lamar’s legacy is one of love, faith, and an unshakeable character; his example was not limited to the big things in life, but how he dedicated himself to the details. He fell madly in love with his “honey”, Shirley, and never lost an ounce of that initial passion from the moment they met; it only grew greater and more sublime with the passage of time. In his words, “he got her and brought her on a white horse to Texas”, marrying on May 17, 1963, though he never asked Shirley, he was so in love he just told her that they were getting married, and of course, she responded with emphatic agreement. They were soulmates, and it showed. Lamar considered her feelings in every matter, they agreed on their likes and dislikes, finding harmony between their hearts and happiness in their journey. She was his backbone, with him often remarking to their children, “I don’t know what I’d do without your momma.” He poured himself into his children, taking pride in the product of he and Shirley’s deep love, they were his blessing and the care he showed them was an extension of the essence that defined their home. Lamar had what some would call a ravenous appetite, and this was no better displayed than when he had a plate of catfish in front of him, because once it quickly disappeared, he wanted more. A longtime HAM and CB radio fan, his handle was “Condenser” and his operator number, “N5OMY”. Though he departed this life, he finally made it to his true home, taking his last breath here and opening his eyes on the other side of the veil to be greeted by his Savior. As he waits for his loved ones to join him, he no doubt is calling over the radio waves to Shirley as he did so often on his way home from work, “How bout that Champagne Lady? You out there?...What’s your 20?”, and in Shirley’s heart, as many of the others that cherish his memory, the call goes back “I’m here, but I’ll see you soon.”

Left to honor his memory is his wife of 59 years, Shirley Anders of Vidor; brothers, Donald Lee Anders and wife Gail of Houston, Barney Anders and wife Tammy of Vidor; 4 sons, Randall Anders and wife Linda of Lindale, Gary Anders and wife Pam of Leesville, Marty Anders and wife Robin of Evadale, and Billy Anders and wife Selina of Buna; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Lamar in death are his parents; sister, Yvonne Wood and husband Leon; and sons, Bryan and James Anders.
