Kay Walter Obituary

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce our beautiful mother, Mrs. Kay Marie Nichols Walter, 84, of Lumberton, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021, after a sudden illness. Her children Jody Walter and Susan Walter covet your prayers during this difficult time; she will be missed every day for the rest of their days. Kay was born on September 13, 1937, to Roy Pipkin Nichols and Vivian Maurine (Via) Nichols in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. For those that knew her, she was the best daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was fiercely protective of those she loved. A Bridge player- Kay loved playing bridge and was very good at it; she played in several bridge clubs for over 50 years. She enjoyed all card games, and also playing dominoes. In the last couple of years her bridge clubs stopped meeting in person, so Kay played bridge online with people around the United States. Kay loved the Lord and enjoyed singing in her church choir for over 40 years; she was one of only 2 women who sang tenor and it always brought her so much joy. You may remember Kay as a tenacious and inventive small business owner as well: Kay owned Kay’s Card Castle and Posy Patch in Lumberton for 12 years where she brought joy and smiles too so many. She loved being a Hallmark distributor and florist and represented the Lumberton community as a small business owner. Kay’s family will be forever grateful that we were by her side the five days she was in ICU. As her daughter, it was a moment to be treasured forever as Susan was by her side as she left this earth for her heavenly home. Her family rejoices that she is no longer suffering and is celebrating a glorious reunion in heaven with all those she loved. “We love you Mom…rest peacefully.”

Left to cherish Kay’s memory are her children, Frank (Jody) John Walter of Lumberton, and Susan Lee Walter of Houston; her brother John Roy Nichols of League City; her grandchildren: Ryne Walter, Ethan Walter, and Marishka Ozmun; her great-grandchildren: Emilia Rose Ozmun and Lydia Grace Ozmun; her nieces: Marcia Brown, Maurine Richter, Nancy McCurdy, Carolyn Martinez, Karen Walter, Maurine Nichols, and Lillian Pope; her nephews: Charles (Chip) Graves, Marshall Nichols, and Bob Walter; as well as numerous friends and loved ones over the years.

Kay is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank John Walter; her parents, Roy Pipkin Nichols and Vivian Maurine Nichols; her daughter, Lisa Kay Walter; and her sister Nancy Grace Nichols Graves.

To honor Kay's life a Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021 at First United Methodist Church of Silsbee at 11:00 AM.
