Katherine Lee Nix

Katherine L. Nix was born on December 13, 1946, to Albert and Katherine D. Hodges—a cherished daughter whose life would grow into a radiant testimony of faith, love, and devoted service. Raised in Jefferson County alongside her siblings—Jean St. Clergy, Stephen Hodges, Patricia Hodges, and Elizabeth Juvenois—Katherine’s life was deeply rooted in the values that would guide her every step: compassion, humility, and unshakable faith.

Even in her earliest years, it was clear that Katherine possessed both a heart for teaching and a soul devoted to serving others. With God’s guidance and a steadfast commitment to learning, she pursued her calling with passion and excellence. Her academic journey was as impressive as it was purposeful: a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education specializing in children with disabilities, Bachelor of Theology, and a Master degree in Education with emphasis in Teaching English to speakers of other languages, fully equipping her to reach students of every background and ability with grace and effectiveness.

Katherine’s distinguished 50-year career as an educator was nothing short of extraordinary. Serving within the Beaumont and Nederland Independent School Districts, she poured her God-given gifts into the lives of countless students. Her classroom was not just a space for instruction—it was a sanctuary of growth, where minds were expanded, hearts were encouraged, and futures were forever shaped. She imparted far more than academics; she modeled integrity, fostered compassion, and taught every child to believe in their own potential. Her teaching was a reflection of her soul: gentle, wise, and deeply rooted in purpose.

At the very center of Katherine’s life was her abiding faith in Christ. Her relationship with the Lord shaped every decision and interaction. She did not merely attend church—she lived her faith daily. Whether through joyful worship, humble service, or quiet acts of kindness, she let the light of God shine through her words and her deeds. Her life became a living prayer—steadfast, grace-filled, and deeply surrendered to the will of her Savior.

In her family, Katherine found her greatest earthly joy. She was a loving and devoted mother to her twins, Michael S. Nix and Katherine E. Nix-Kendrick, and a proud grandmother to Michael J. Nix and Isabella G. Nix. Guided by faith, she nurtured her family with wisdom, prayer, and a steadfast presence that will continue to shape generations.

Katherine also held a special place in the hearts of her extended family. As an aunt to Amanda Larsen, Justin Champagne, Stephen Hodges, Misty Rollinson, Paul Russell, and Deborah Chamblee, she offered encouragement, kindness, and a welcoming spirit. Her love extended freely to her daughter-in-law Carolina Nix, brother-in-law Tad Juvenois, sister-in-law Charlotte Hodges, son-in-law Joel Kendrick, and his son Marshall. Known affectionately as “Nana K” to Marie McDaniel, Carson, Carter, and Christian, she was a source of comfort, laughter, and unconditional love. Her lifelong best friend, Linda Buford, was more than a companion—she was a spiritual sister, sharing a bond of enduring faith and deep affection.

In addition to her role as an educator, Katherine also served as a faith-based counselor, ministering to those in emotional or spiritual crisis. Her ability to offer both wisdom and warmth had a profound impact on the mental and spiritual well-being of many in her community. She listened deeply, prayed faithfully, and delivered hope to those walking through darkness.

Katherine Nix walked this earth as a vessel of God’s love—a quiet yet powerful beacon of peace, strength, and divine grace. The lives she touched cannot be counted, and her legacy cannot be measured in worldly terms. It is etched instead in the hearts she comforted, the students she inspired, and the faith she boldly lived.

Though we grieve her passing, we do so with the assurance of God’s promises. Katherine has now returned home—her earthly work fulfilled, her spirit welcomed into eternal rest. We believe she has heard the words:

“Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”

Her spirit lives on—whispering to us in moments of stillness, reminding us to love deeply, serve faithfully, and walk in faith, just as she did.
