Karen Lee Getz, age 68, of Lumberton, TX, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023. She was born in Hartford, CT, on February 10, 1955, to the late John and Doreen Winters Hoar.
Karen was a light in a lot of lives. Her siblings and family would agree she was a firecracker and always spoke her mind. In her younger years, Karen loved waterskiing and she enjoyed drive-in movies with her husband. Karen was a proud military wife, supporting her husband, who served honorably in the U.S. Army for 30 years. Karen had a sense of style and beauty like none other. As a child, Karen would never even take the trash out without her hair and makeup done! Karen was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and aunt to many who loved her. She was an honest and fair woman who had the philosophy “right is right.” She beat the original odds of cancer survival of 3 years to more than double that! We will miss her and her strong will.
Left to honor her memory is her beloved husband of 50 years, Gilbert Getz, of Lumberton, TX; son, Eric Getz, of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Cheryl Getz (partner Kraig Baker) of Lumberton, TX; sisters, Laurie Tursi of Silsbee, TX; and Doreen Friel (Michael) of Tampa, FL; grandchildren Dillon Getz, Evan Getz, Madalyn Nail, Rylynn Lamb, and Carsen Hoffman. She also leaves behind her nephews, Wayne Tursi Jr., Matthew Tursi, and Michael Friel; and her niece, Jennifer Friel (Jeff Decker), as well as lots of extended family and friends residing in Connecticut and Ohio. Karen also leaves her brothers-in-law, (Robert, Jeffrey, Peter, Stephen and Richard Getz) and their wives and children.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Doreen Hoar; her sisters-in-law, Karen Cyr and Cheryl Getz; as well as her father- and mother-in-law, Bob and Marcella Getz, and her favorite dog, Zachary!
