Judith Dawn (Gibson) Mayfield

Judith Dawn Mayfield, age 62, passed from this life on Friday, June 20, 2025. She was born to Greer Ogden and Alice Wilson Gibson in Beaumont, TX on March 18, 1963.

Judy was a woman who lived honestly and loved unconditionally. She never met a stranger, only future friends. The point of connection for the particulars, Judy dutifully served as the “information broker” of her family. If something was going on, Judy already knew about it. “Telephone, telegraph, tell Judy” wasn’t just a joke, it was gospel truth. She had the gift of knowing, remembering, and sharing. She was the inspiration behind the family song, "Big Booty Judy", a testament to the smiles and fun she brought to everyone around her. Her kitchen carried the legendary scent of Chicken Spaghetti, served often, and always met with the kind of love only a family can have for a dish they’ve had just enough times. Judy was married to her soulmate, Roy, for a lifetime filled with love, partnership, and the raising of their seven children. Their bond remained unbroken until his passing in 2020, and their legacy lives on in the large, loving family they built together. Her love didn’t stop with her own children. Judy opened her heart and home to many “adopted” children who may not share her blood, but who knew her embrace as family. Everyone was welcome, no matter their story or background. If you were blessed enough to know her, you were family. A woman of faith, Judy was a proud Christian whose kindness reflected the love she believed in. She was “Maw Maw” to her grandchildren and, with great pride and joy, “Old Maw Maw” to her great-grandchildren. Judy leaves behind a legacy of love. Her stories will be retold, her Chicken Spaghetti recipe possibly retired, but her spirit, never. She will be missed endlessly and remembered always.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Karen Johnson and husband, Belton, Glendy Smith and husband, Ricky, Roy Mayfield Jr. and wife, Amanda, Taffiny Mayfield and husband, Jay Burt, Carrie Dechaume and husband, Robert, Randy Mayfield and wife, Shannon, Tommye Mayfield and husband, James; 29 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding Judy in death is her beloved husband, Roy Mayfield Sr.
