Johnny Manriquez Obituary

Sam Juan “Johnny” Manriquez, age 78, of Lumberton, TX, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2025. He was born on October 26, 1946, in Beaumont, TX to Sam Lopez Manriquez and Juanita Francis Aguilar Manriquez.

A man whose laughter and warmth could light up any room, he leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and unforgettable memories. He was a devoted husband to his beloved Laverne, caring for her with unwavering dedication throughout their life together. Their love story was one of companionship and devotion, filled with the kind of tenderness that stood the test of time. Personable and full of life, Johnny was well known, not just for his infectious humor and smooth dance moves, but for his ability to make friends wherever he went. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger, always ready with a smile, a joke, and an open heart. A proud father and grandfather, Johnny cherished his family above all else. Hunting during bow season and fishing at Pleasure Island were among his favorite pastimes, especially when shared with loved ones. His passion for the outdoors was matched only by his passion for a good bowl of Blue Bell ice cream. Johnny was a true gentleman, a caretaker, and a character who made life richer for those around him. His presence will be missed, but the joy he brought to the world will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Left to honor his memory are his sons, Troy Wesley Dale Manriquez and spouse, Brandy Heaton, Jerimiah Manriquez, and Sammy Ashworth; daughters, Stacey Hall and spouse, Damon Armstrong, and Linda Dear and husband, Michael; brothers, Nacho Manriquez and wife, Julie, Jessie Manriquez and wife, Maria, Pete Manriquez and wife, Rosie, and Anthony Manriquez and wife, Martha; sisters, Flora Medina and Delores Lopez; grandchildren, Jacob “Popeye” Villarreal and wife, Katy, Hanna “Banana” Kizziah and husband, Briar, Paige “Paigey-poo” Sebren and spouse, Weston McShan, Lyndsie “Popeyette” Gaus and husband, Travis, CJ Dear and Revel “RJ” Dear; great-grandchildren, Damon “Popeye Jr.” Villarreal, Claire “Sissy” Villarreal, Lexi “Alexa” Villarreal, Landon “Alexa Jr.” Villarreal, Blake “the Runner” McShan, Dawson “Fatboy” Gaus a.k.a. “Chunky Cheese”; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and loved ones.
