Joanne Ruth McFarland, age 87, of Lumberton, TX, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025. She was born in Silsbee, TX, on December 23, 1937, to Ivor and Gladys Plummer Skinner.
Sweet and giving, Joanne gave freely of herself, nurturing those whom God placed in her care. She was a lady, a woman of grace and beauty. Her steady devotion to the Lord never wavered, whether in seasons of hardship or joy, and her life was a testimony of faithfulness. Born in Silsbee, Texas, Joanne moved with her family to Buna during her high school years. It was there she was crowned Harvest Queen, a moment that would change her life forever. She asked a young, handsome man named R.C. McFarland to be her escort, and from that day forward, they shared something special. Their hearts and spirits were united. Together, they built a life rooted in love and faith, blessed with children who became the joy of their lives. Joanne’s heart was always open to others. She lived as an example, raising her children in church with determination to set them on the right path. She was a proud “Mawmaw” to her grandchildren, who adored her gentle spirit and cherished her guidance. Her love extended beyond her family to her church community, where she taught Sunday School to the young children, planting seeds of faith that will continue to grow for generations. Gifted in mathematics, Joanne excelled in her career in banking, where her sharp mind and steady character earned her respect and admiration. After retirement, she and R.C. enjoyed traveling together, deepening the bond they had shared since their youth. Joanne’s life was a story of love, faith, and service. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Susan Renee Willis and husband, Rocky; brothers, Donald Skinner and wife Gloria, and Doug Skinner and wife, Barbara; brother-in-law, Rev. Raymond Paul Bell; beloved sister-in-law, Maude Malone; and a host of nieces, nephew, extended family, friends, and loved ones.
Joanne is preceded in passing by her parents; husband, R.C. McFarland Jr.; son, David Kent McFarland; daughter, Debra Clark; sisters, Jean Bell and Dorothy Cooley; and brother, James “Shorty” Skinner.
