JoAnne Ruth Swartout

JoAnne Ruth Swartout, age 85, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024 in Lumberton, Texas. JoAnne was born on September 15, 1939 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Algernon Vaughan and Florence Rowland.

A beloved lady known simply as "Granny" to all who were fortunate enough to know her. JoAnne was a beacon of love and acceptance, selflessly giving her all to anyone in need, whether they were family by blood or by heart. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth and welcome, a place where many children found love and guidance under her roof. JoAnne’s selflessness knew no bounds; she was always there, regardless of what she had, ready to lend a hand or a listening ear, and though she may have appeared to be sleeping at times, she was listening. Despite sometimes struggling with names, her heart was large enough to hold everyone she met. JoAnne had a knack for setting things straight with a firm but loving hand when necessary. Her remarkable sense of humor, always witty and full of joy, brought laughter and light to those around her. JoAnne Swartout leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and acceptance. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all those she touched. Rest in peace, dear Granny—you were a true gem and will be deeply missed.

Left to honor her memory is her daughter, Wanda Davids; sons, Mike Swartout and fiance, Gina Fitts, and Craig Swartout and wife, Erin; brother, David Vaughan; sister, Mary Forrey; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of extended family, friends, and loved ones.

Preceding JoAnne in death are her parents; husband, James Swartout; daughters, Vickie Swartout and Dianne Christian; and sisters, Patsy, and Dorothy. 

JoAnne’s life honoring memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, November, 23, 2024, at Lumberton Family Funeral Home, 766 S. Main Street, Lumberton, TX 77657.
