Jo Ann Woollen
1935-2020
JoAnn Woollen, age 84, passed from this life and into the arms of her Saviour on April 21, 2020.
A native of Port Arthur, she was born on July 31, 1935 and made her home in in Vidor since 1965. She was a 1953 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School.
The theme of her life was her faith, and the fabric of her life was woven with her devoted prayers and study. The joy she found in it was only closely followed by the love she had for her family and friends. “Aunt Jo” was a caretaker, always providing a welcome and beloved home for those she loved, especially her nieces and nephews. She took care of them, and in her living testimony, and occasional preaching to them, they always knew that they were on constantly on her mind, in her heart, and mentioned daily in her prayers. Though simple and unassuming, JoAnn was a warrior, a prayer warrior, unshakably and faithfully kept her faith until her very last breath on this Earth. Jo presented a ministry in any crevice of life that was offered: with her “phone ministry” where she kept constant contact with her many friends and church members; filling in occasionally for her brother, Jimmy Woollen, a minister, whom she occasionally filled in for, preaching many times for their church; and teaching many Sunday School classes and Bible studies over the years. She retired from Wal-Mart after many years there. A faithful member of The Pentecostals of Pine Forest until her sickness kept her home, she continued to fellowship with friends over the phone, and every night with Bible study and prayer with the Lord. Once at home, though she struggled to find a use for it until her advanced years, she got a television and cable. Though her cable had numerous channels, she only watched the necessary channels and shows: The Wheel of Fortune, Jimmy Swaggart (mainly his old-time gospel), and the news channel. JoAnn’s kind, honest and stalwart nature will leave a legacy of love in the hearts of the many loved ones that she leaves behind.
Left to honor her memory are her 6 nieces and 5 nephews; best friend of over 60 years, Mollie Linscomb; and a host of extended family, church members and dear friends.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her sisters, Faye Roulias and Wanda Mancher and brothers, Charles Woollen and Jimmy Woollen.
Private family services to be held by her family and friends at Restlawn Memorial Park in Vidor, TX.
