Jo Nan (Downs) Barnard

Jo Nan Downs Barnard, of Vidor, passed away at the age of 85 on Friday, January 1, 2021.

Jo Nan was born on June 13, 1935 in Marthaville, Louisiana to Clarence Homer Downs and Eloise McGehee Downs. After graduating from French High School of Beaumont, TX she met the love of her life Billy Barnard and soon after, began a lifelong marriage of over 65 years! Always trying to help someone, Jo Nan was known for being a great host, she loved to cook for and feed everyone and everyone loved her gumbo! She was a long-time member of Westgate Memorial Baptist Church where she was very involved and taught Sunday school for many years. Known as “JoJo” by the grand babies, Jo Nan was a mom by trade, she loved to have kids in the house and always took great care of her family. Additionally, Jo Nan was the proud owner of the Hair Clinic for many years and it is still in business today in Beaumont. All who were blessed by knowing her will miss her dearly and look forward to meeting her again.

Jo Nan is preceded in death by her husband Billy Edward Barnard; her parents, Clarence Homer Downs and Eloise McGehee Downs; and her siblings, Walter Downs, Virginia LaLande and Howard Downs.

Left to cherish the memory of Jo Nan are her children, Dennis Edward Barnard and wife Terry of Beaumont, Jeffery Kyle Barnard of Beaumont, and Kellie Dane Hampton and husband Greg of Spring; her grandchildren, Kristian Barnard and wife Crystal, Kody Barnard, Courtney Hampton, and Chase Hampton; and Her sister-in-law Devina Downs.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Kristian Barnard, Kody Barnard, Chase Hampton and Courtney Hampton.

Funeral Services for Jo Nan are scheduled for Friday, January 8, 2021 beginning at 10:00AM at Westgate Memorial Baptist Church, 6220 Westgate Dr. Beaumont, TX 77706 with interment to follow at 3:30pm at Bethany Cemetery in Marthaville, LA.
