Jim Ruhland Obituary

James “Jim” Leo Ruhland, 87, of Lumberton passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Jim was born May 20, 1933 in Morton, Minnesota to Mike and Catherine Ruhland and always had a love of the outdoors. Famous for his care of his flowerbeds and vegetable gardens, Jim could usually be found hard at work in the earth he loved so much. The care he took with his treasured flowers and gardens was a mirror image of the love he had for his two girls. Jim was an awesome dad; always supportive, loving, the consummate cheerleader and fan, and best friends with his children as they became adults. Jim was also always a supportive and caring husband- a reflection of the compassionate and giving heart he had towards others; Jim was incapable of watching anyone he loved suffering and was always quick to lend a hand whenever he could. This family man also loved America’s Pastime and enjoyed taking his daughter to Astro’s games so they could share in peanuts and memory making. All around, Jim was a kind and caring man who truly loved his family, his gardens, and supporting his church with acts of service in the flower beds and gardens there too. His bright countenance and loving manner will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of over 33 years, Mary Ruhland; his daughters Sandi O’Bannion and husband Ray Lynn and Danee’ Ruhland; his grandchildren, Jessica Russell and husband Roman, Sean O’Bannion, Gabrielle Striker and husband Jareth, Chelsea Atkin and husband Stan; his great-grandchildren, Alexa Guilbeau, Addi Russell, Ella Russell and Oliver Striker; as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Catherine Ruhland; his brothers, Delmar Ruhland and wife Marion, George Ruhland and wife Delores; his sisters, Eillen Sindelier and husband Ray, Mary Helen Eichkoff and husband John; and his great-grandson, Brayden O’Bannion.

A special thanks to Harold Woodrom for always “looking out” for Jim and taking care of his yard while he was ill.
